Families, teens and active adults will soon have a new place to play, train and connect at City Center. The City of Lenexa will build a hillside playground and outdoor fitness park featuring slides, climbing elements, outdoor fitness equipment and a Ninja Warrior–style obstacle course — the second in Kansas and the first in the Kansas City region. Thanks to a significant donation, the new space will be known as AdventHealth Central Green & Fitness Park.

Residents identified a City Center playground as a top community priority through the 2024 Parks & Recreation Master Plan. The 11.6-acre Central Green Park currently features cascading ponds with steppingstones, natural areas, beautiful landscaping and public art. With the development of AdventHealth’s campus adjacent to Central Green, a shared vision emerged to create a destination park that blends play, wellness and community gathering in the heart of City Center.

The $1.4 million project combines funding from Lenexa’s 3/8-Cent Sales Tax, the Parks & Recreation Impact Fee, and a generous donation from AdventHealth, whose partnership is making the project possible.

“We simply couldn’t bring this vision to life without AdventHealth,” said Parks & Recreation Director Logan Wagler. “Their support allows us to create exactly what our residents asked for — a space that brings people together, supports healthy, active lifestyles and serves multiple generations.”

The hillside design will create a safe, engaging environment for younger children while offering more challenging elements for older youth and adults. Enhanced trail connections will improve park access and further strengthen AdventHealth Central Green & Fitness Park as a destination for families and visitors.

In addition to play and fitness features coming to the park, the project includes safety surfacing, a year-round restroom, shade structures, landscaping and comfortable seating areas to support year-round use.

“As Lenexa City Center continues to grow, we share a vision for creating spaces where people can move, connect and thrive,” said Sissel Jacob, CEO, AdventHealth Lenexa City Center. “We're proud to partner with the City of Lenexa to bring this playground and outdoor fitness park to Central Green, supporting active, adventurous lifestyle for people of all ages."

Mayor Julie Sayers praised the partnership and community impact of the project.

“This is a powerful example of how strong partnerships help build a more vibrant Lenexa,” said Sayers. “Projects like this don’t just add amenities — they shape how people experience our City. We’re grateful to AdventHealth for their continued investment in Lenexa and their shared commitment to creating spaces that support healthy, connected living and strengthen the energy of City Center.”

Construction is expected to begin later this summer, with completion anticipated in 2027.
