3/8-Cent Sales Tax

For every sales tax dollar collected in Lenexa, nearly 40% comes from visitors, not residents. 

Examples of purchases: 

• You pay $0.04 in 3/8-Cent Sales Tax for a $10 coffee shop treat  
•  You pay $0.56 in 3/8-Cent Sales Tax for a $150 pair of wireless earbuds  
• You pay $3.37 in 3/8-Cent Sales Tax for an $899 BBQ smoker  

The current sales tax expires on Sept. 30, 2048.

• Pavement maintenance on nearly every city street, including spot sidewalk repairs and curb and gutter replacement where needed through the Pavement Management Program
• Lenexa Rec Center and civic campus parking garage
• Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic Center reconstruction
• Ad Astra Pool reconstruction
• Lenexa Old Town Activity Center renovation
• Nearly every piece of playground equipment replacement in City parks
• 79th Street Trail
• Lackman Road Trail
• Little Mill Creek Park improvements and trail
• Renner Trail 
• Freedom Fields improvements

• Continued investment in the annual Pavement Management Program to help maintain Lenexa’s growing, aging street network. Resurfacing techniques extend the useful life of a street by 8–10 years and help prevent expensive, disruptive future repairs. 
• Street reconstruction projects and pedestrian and cycling improvements identified in the Compete Streets Study. 
• Expand and improve the multiuse trails network throughout the community. The Parks & Recreation Master Plan and Comprehensive Plan (adopted in 2024) identified a map of future trail locations(PDF, 2MB) to enhance connectivity and provide more recreational opportunities.  
• Development of new parks in growing areas of the city. 
• Improvements to existing parks, including updating or adding park shelters, restrooms and lighting. 
• New park amenities identified in the Parks & Recreation Master Plan, like sport courts, dog parks, splash pads and inclusive playground features. 
• Continued investment in the Playground Replacement Program.
