Black Hoof Park is a 231-acre park featuring 35-acre, deep-water Lake Lenexa. The park offers a unique dam and spillway, several miles of trails through open grass and wooded areas and fun natural play areas for children. You’ll be able to experience beautiful nature and observe a wide variety of wildlife.


Playgrounds

Playground near Oak Shelter

This destination playground is nestled in Becker's Woodland. A special attraction is the natural play area including a play stream (runs daily for an eight-hour period from May–mid-October), sandbox, natural hide-and-seek area, log stepping and boulder climbing. Three different play sets are available. One play set for ages 2–5 includes slides, monkey bars, tot swings and bridges. Two different play areas are available for ages 5–12 that have slides, climbing areas, spinners, bridges, hanging zip line, swings, monkey bars and rings. All of the playground surfaces are wood mulch except for sandbox.

Playground near Stone Wall Shelter

This playground offers beautiful views of Lake Lenexa. The play equipment is primarily for ages 5–12 and has naturalized boulder climbing with slides. There are two tot swings and two school-age swings. The surface for this play area is wood mulch.


Boating and fishing

Boating: We allow non-gas-powered boating at Lake Lenexa. Your boat must be class 1 (26 feet in length) or smaller. The public boat ramp is located next to the Stone Wall Shelter. Hours are:

  • November through February: 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • March, April, September and October: 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • May through August: 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Kayak and stand-up paddleboard rental: Four single kayaks and four stand-up paddleboards are available to rent May 1–Oct. 15. Each includes a paddle and life jacket. Self-serve rental lockers are located near the boat ramp. A sign on the lockers will guide you through using a mobile app to unlock and pay for a kayak or paddleboard. Must be 18 years or older to use equipment. Weight limit is 300 pounds. Hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Fishing: Lake Lenexa is stocked with channel catfish, black crappie, bluegill, sunfish and largemouth bass. You must have a state fishing license if you are between 16 and 74 years old. Hours coincide with park hours: 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
