Safe Exchange Zone

Online platforms like Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist and neighborhood apps make it easy to connect with others to buy, sell or trade items. But when meeting an unknown person, safety should always be the top priority. Whether you’re buying a cellphone or selling concert tickets, choosing a safe location can make all the difference.

Criminals with ill intentions are unlikely to meet at a police station for a transaction. For your next exchange, consider meeting at the Lenexa Justice Center lobby or parking lot, or another police station. The Justice Center lobby is open to the public 24/7, is well let, and is monitored by video surveillance.

Please note: While we’re proud to offer a secure meeting space, our officers will not monitor or witness transactions. We simply provide a safe, neutral location to help reduce the risk of theft, fraud or conflict.

Tips for a safer exchange:

  • Always meet in public, well-lit areas, like a police station. Our police department lobby is a great option, especially during off-hours.
  • Bring someone with you, if possible.
  • Trust your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t go through with the transaction.
  • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash or sharing personal information.
  • Double-check the item before finalizing the deal — especially electronics or high-value goods.
