Ad Astra Pool with swimmers

Project description

Ad Astra Pool opened to the public in 1988. It will be demolished and completely rebuilt to address its many maintenance challenges. The City Council approved $8 million for reconstruction of the pool. Based on funding, leaders are hopeful it will compare in size and features to Flat Rock Creek Pool and complement Lenexa's overall aquatics offerings.

Residents gave input on the design features and amenities during a series of open houses, online surveys and pop-up events in the Summer 2024. Future aquatic amenities identified include:

  • Large zero–depth entry area with shade
  • Underwater bench seating
  • Three, 25–yard lap lanes for swimming
  • Deep water area with two diving boards
  • 180–foot current channel
  • Large deck and shade areas
  • New bathhouse and concession building

Public engagement

Lenexa Parks & Recreation and SFS Architecture hosted three community open houses (June 13, July 24 and Sept. 11). The first was to gather input on amenities, design elements and programming. The second was for residents to give feedback on four concepts created from the ideas shared in June. The final open house was for residents to see the final two designs and vote for their favorite as well as communicate any reservations, likes or dislikes. Each open house was also accompanied by an online survey for those unable to attend.
