City Hall Art Gallery

Lenexa’s City Hall Art Gallery showcases local and regional artists. Shows rotate about every month and feature a wide array of art styles.

Receptions typically take place on the first Thursday of an exhibit’s debut. These receptions are open to the community and are a great way to learn more about the artists, their inspiration and process.

Some art is available for purchase. Check with the receptionist or the artist’s bio book at the exhibit to learn more.

The Lenexa Arts Council hosts and organizes about 10 exhibits in the City Hall Art Gallery each year.

Calls for artists

Solo or Shared Exhibit Call for Artists

The City Hall Art Gallery rotates exhibits on nearly a monthly basis. If you would like to have your 2D or 3D work considered for a solo or shared exhibit, you are invited to apply. We select art based on artistic and cultural significance that encourages public education and appreciation of the arts. We also look for art that demonstrates professional excellence and creativity, taking into consideration general standards of decency and respect for cultural diversity.

We celebrate hometown artists in the Lenexa Artists’ Show, which features 2D and 3D works by Lenexa residents only. This is a juried show, and judges award monetary prizes in various categories for exceptional artwork.

Family Traditions Exhibit Call for Participants

The Lenexa Arts Council, Legler Barn Museum and the Lenexa Historical Society invite community members to help create "Lenexa Family Traditions," a special 3D City Hall Art Gallery exhibit on display Nov. 30, 2026–Jan. 25, 2027.

Unlike a traditional wall art exhibit, this display will feature meaningful objects showcased in the gallery's display cases. Share an item that reflects your family's traditions, culture or heritage — whether it's a treasured recipe, heirloom, photograph, garment, tool or other keepsake. Together, these objects will celebrate the stories, customs and traditions that make our community unique.

Because exhibit space is limited, not all submissions will be selected. Items must fit inside the display cases. If your item is especially valuable, fragile or too large, you may submit a high-quality photograph instead. Legler Barn Museum staff and Lenexa Historical Society volunteers will select up to 10 items for the exhibit.

Place of Peace Veterans Art Exhibit Call for Artists

We’re giving veterans a creative outlet and a way to process their experience and community members an opportunity to support and learn from them. This fall, the Lenexa Arts Council and the Arts Council of Johnson County will present Place of Peace at the City Hall Art Gallery. We’re seeking veterans — from all military branches and artistic levels — to submit art for consideration.
