Lenexa residents can look forward to a reimagined neighborhood pool experience. After months of community input and careful planning, the final design for the new Ad Astra Pool is complete — bringing modern features, improved access and a renewed sense of community to the beloved summer spot.

The original pool, which served families for decades, needed a full reconstruction. “We reached a point where repairs weren’t enough — it needed to be rebuilt from the ground up to continue serving the community safely and effectively,” said Logan Wagler, director of Lenexa Parks & Recreation.

With funds from Lenexa’s 3/8-Cent Sales Tax, a brand-new facility is on the way — one shaped directly by the people who use it. The City collected input through three public open houses, online surveys and fun pop-up events at Lenexa pools last summer. Residents of all ages shared ideas that helped shape everything from the pool layout to the amenities and surrounding infrastructure.

Highlights of the new Ad Astra Pool design include:

  • A zero-depth entry area with nearby shade structures
  • Three 25-yard lap lanes for fitness and swim practice
  • A deep water area with two diving boards
  • A 180-foot current channel
  • Shaded areas throughout the deck
  • A brand-new bathhouse and concession building

Beyond the pool, the project includes construction of a new access road — a feature that will not only improve summer traffic flow but also serve families dropping off and picking up students at the nearby school year-round.

“This pool has always been a gathering place, and now it will be even more welcoming, inclusive and functional for the community,” said Wagler. “The new design reflects what residents told us they wanted — a fun, safe, modern pool where people of all ages can enjoy summer in Lenexa.”

Conceptual designs

The current site was demolished last year when the City entered into an agreement with Prosser Wilbert to serve as the construction manager. Since then, the City, Prosser Wilbert and the project architect, SFS Architecture, have worked together to coordinate planning, design and budget. These items have been finalized, and the Lenexa City Council approved the final guaranteed maximum price of $8,094,928 for the project at its May 20, 2025, meeting. Construction is expected to begin this June with the goal of opening for the 2026 summer season.
