Lenexa knows how to do summer right. Whether you’re grooving to live music, making a splash at the pool or exploring the outdoors, there’s no shortage of ways to make this season unforgettable. Grab your shades, rally your crew and dive into all the fun that awaits!
For the movers and shakers:
Outdoor Concert Series (Presented by Blue Moose Bar & Grill). Pack a picnic and enjoy free live music on Sunday evenings at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park May 18-June 15 and Sept. 14 and 21. Whether you’re swaying to soulful blues or dancing to Motown, it’s the perfect way to cap off your weekend. Prefer something more refined to move you? The Lenexa Community Orchestra offers a captivating classical experience indoors June 21, July 19 and Aug. 2.
Friday Night Sound Bites. Groove into the weekend with free live music and local grub by merchants and rotating food trucks every Friday at the Lenexa Public Market May 23-Oct. 31. Seating is limited, so bring a lawn chair.
Moonlight Bike Ride. Experience the thrill of riding through Lenexa at night and looping through the underground Meritex caves on July 19. Cap off the adventure with a well-earned pancake feast at the finish line.
Lenexa Freedom Run (Presented by Everfast Fiber Networks). Lace up for a 5K or 10K on July 4. Whether you’re running, walking or pushing a stroller, it’s a way to get your celebrations off on the right foot. Want extra motivation? Join the Lenexa Run Club and train with a fun, supportive group.
Tiny Tot Triathlon. Watch your little athletes (ages 3-9) run, ride and splash their way through Little Mill Creek Park on Aug. 23. It’s an adorable and exciting way to introduce kids to fitness.
Rolling Magic Skate Park. Grab your board, scooter or skates and hit the ramps. New to the scene? Join a Skateboarding 101 session to boost your skills and confidence. Whether you’re riding or spectating, the tricks and flips are sure to impress.
Work Out With Lenexa Police the first Saturday of each month. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just starting out, this program tailors exercises to suit all fitness levels, focusing on functional fitness, strength training and cardio. Must be age 18 or older.

Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic Center: Speed down the tube slide or float your cares away on the lazy river.
Flat Rock Creek Pool: Enjoy a laid-back vibe and cool off with friends and family.
Splash With Me: Bring your little ones for playful water fun, perfect for tiny swimmers.
Paws in the Pool: Let your pup take the plunge at this dog-friendly event on Aug. 9.
Swim Lessons: From private to small group sessions, summer is a great time to boost swim skills and confidence.
Movie in the Pool: Don’t miss Disney-Pixar’s “Luca” on the big screen after hours at Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic Center July 25.
For the community builders:
Ice Cream Social. Start summer with a nod to Lenexa’s sweet past of gathering around the town bandstand for ice cream and live music May 17.
Global Neighbors & Flavors Fest. Savor global cuisines, enjoy vibrant performances and experience cultures from around the world on June 7 at the Lenexa Public Market.
Community Days Parade. Show off your red, white and blue at the annual July 4 parade in Old Town. Want to be part of the fun? Round up your club or group and join the parade! Deadline for entries is June 16.
Legler Barn Museum & Depot. Step back in time and explore Lenexa’s history. The museum is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and admission is free. Adults, don’t miss our history series with Humanities Kansas that takes place about every 6 weeks. We meet for lunch or happy hour and dive into a topic that is sure to spark conversation.
Family Night on Wednesdays at the Lenexa Public Market is a place to eat, have conversation and let kids be kids. Expect food specials, access to 250+ board games, coloring pages and outdoor yard games.
City Hall Art Gallery. Take a break from the summer heat and wander through the rotating art exhibits. With displays changing every four to six weeks, there’s always something new to see. Bonus: Check out five tips for exploring art with kids or learn how you can explore art yourself.
Movie in the Park. Invite your neighbors and friends, throw in a blanket and snacks and enjoy an evening under the stars watching “The BFG” at Electric Park May 30.
Kid Makers Market. Support young entrepreneurs July 12 as they showcase their handmade creations for one day only at the Lenexa Public Market. It’s a great chance to see creativity in action and pick up a one-of-a-kind item.
For the foodies:
Food Truck Frenzy. Indulge your taste buds on July 19 in Old Town. Enjoy live music and about a local dozen food trucks.
Lenexa Farmers Market. Start your Saturday mornings at the Market, which bursts with color, flavor and activity all summer long. The lively outdoor setting is perfect for connecting with vendors and friends as you stock up on seasonal produce and local goods. Visit midweek on Tuesdays starting May 27.
Lenexa Public Market. Let your palate travel the world without leaving town. Savor Turkish, Thai, Pakistani and West African cuisine. Got picky eaters? No worries — you'll also find delicious donuts, pizza and waffles to satisfy every craving.
For the explorers:
Rent a kayak or paddle board. Glide across Lake Lenexa at Black Hoof Park on a kayak or paddleboard.
Playground Passport. Embark on an epic park-hopping adventure. Visit the 14 playgrounds in this year’s passport, solve the secret code, and win a prize! Registration is optional, but it comes with fun park tips and activities.
Walking tours. Take a self-guided stroll and learn about local nature and water quality on the Raindrop Walk or explore the Evan Knaus Memorial Tree Walk.
