Old Town Activity Center Gym Rules

General gym rules

Use at your own risk. Activities are unsupervised. Gym may close for scheduled programs or events. Follow the Lenexa Parks & Recreation User Conduct Policy(PDF, 2MB) at all times. 


Youth and supervision

Children under 12 years of age must be with an adult or in a registered program. Adult supervision is strongly recommended for all minors. 


Attire

Appropriate dress and footwear are required at all times. 


Equipment and court use

Use all equipment and property safely and for its intended purpose. Do not throw or strike balls against the walls or use walls as a return surface. Only staff may adjust goals, nets and dividers. No dunking or hanging on rims. Only equipment for scheduled gym activities is permitted. No personal training, coaching, drills or practices without prior approval. Full court games allowed if space permits; staff may pause play if others are waiting. Return all equipment to designated bins or the office after use. 


Behavior and conduct

No profanity, fighting, spitting, gambling, horseplay or vandalism. Violations may result in removal or loss of privileges. Report any accidents, unsafe conditions or misconduct to staff immediately. All behavior and language must be appropriate for a family setting.


Personal belongings and food

Keep track of personal items. We are not responsible for lost or stolen belongings. Only water is allowed in the gym. No other food or beverages permitted without permission.

Outdoor porch and court rules

General campus rules

Use at your own risk. Activities are unsupervised. Spaces may close for scheduled programs or events. Children under 12 years of age must be with an adult. 

Equipment checkout and restrooms available during operating hours.

Porch and courts open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily except during drop-in play, programming and rentals.

Cornhole rules

  • Equipment checkout at lobby front desk.
  • Set boards 27 feet apart.
  • Form two teams of 1 or 2 players.
  • Each team gets 4 bags of the same color.
  • Take turns tossing bags, one at a time from behind the front of the board.
  • If the bag goes through the hole it is 3 points. If the bag lands and stays on the board it is 1 point.
  • Use cancellation scoring after each round. (Example: Team A scores 5, Team B scores 3 = Team A gets 2 points).
  • First team to 21 points wins.

Shuffleboard rules

  • Equipment checkout at lobby front desk.
  • Form two teams of 1−2 players.
  • Discs must be shot from your side of the court.
  • The goal is to score 7s, 8s and 10s and not land in the -10.
  • Any discs touching lines don’t count.
  • Teams take turns shooting discs.
  • Scores are counted after all plays have been made.
  • First team to 75 points wins.
  • Knocking out your opponent’s discs is encouraged.

The following are not allowed: 

  • Glass containers
  • Any use of tobacco products, vapes, illegal drugs or alcohol
  • Loud music
  • Vandalism
  • Soliciting
  • Littering
  • Unpermitted events
  • Profanity
  • Fighting
  • Spitting
  • Gambling
  • Horseplay

Violations may result in removal or loss of privileges. 


Courts, equipment and pets 

Use equipment and property safely and for its intended use. Only staff may move furniture and adjust TVs. No chairs, bicycles, roller blades, skateboards or pets on courts. No food or drink besides water allowed on courts. Pets must remain outside and leashed. Owners must pick up after their pets. No personal training, coaching, drills or practices allowed. Return equipment to designated area or office after use.

Visitors need to know 

  • This space is unsupervised but open and available for the community to enjoy when drop-in activities, recreational programming or rentals are not taking place.
  • Do not leave possessions unattended. Lenexa Parks & Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Please report any accidents, unsafe conditions or misconduct to staff. After hours, please contact Lenexa Police Dispatch: 913.477.7301.
  • For emergencies call 911.

Pickleball rules

Indoor courts

  • Games are played to a score of 11.
  • Limit games to 15 minutes if other players are waiting.
  • When courts are full, place your paddle in the stack.
  • Only one paddle per player in the stack.
  • Do not move another person’s paddle. 
  • Bottom paddle is up next to play.
  • Only staff may move nets. 
  • Lenexa Parks & Recreation reserves the right to close or reserve courts at any time.

Outdoor courts

  • Games are played to a score of 11.
  • Limit games to 15 minutes if other players are waiting.
  • When courts are full, place your paddle in the designated paddle racks.
  • Move the “Next Up” magnet to the right as players rotate into games.
  • Only one paddle per player in the stack.
  • Do not move another person’s paddle.
  • Only staff may move nets.
  • Lenexa Parks & Recreation reserves the right to close or reserve courts at any time.
  • Courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis unless a party has paid and signed a rental agreement to reserve the courts. The renter has sole use of the court.
  • No spectators, chairs, bicycles, roller blades, skateboards or pets on the courts.

Challenge court rules (outdoor only)

  • Winners stay on, losers rotate off.
  • Winning team can play up to three games in a row, then they rotate off.
  • After third win, winners rotate off and losers stay to challenge next in line.
  • Games go to 11, win by 1.
  • All other facility pickleball rules apply.
  • Be fair, take turns, have fun!
