Old Town Activity Center Gym Rules

Open gym rules

  1. Open gym is limited to capacity of the gym. The normal capacity of the gym is 75. We reserve the right to further limit capacity. Lenexa residents shall be given priority if the gym reaches capacity.

  2. Children under age 12 must be accompanied by a person 18 years or older while on court.

  3. All equipment used on the courts should be used appropriately and safely.

  4. Patrons will not adjust volleyball net or basketball goal heights.

  5. Only equipment for scheduled open gym activities are allowed to be used on courts.

  6. Monopolizing of courts for training, coaching, drills, or practices is not allowed during scheduled open gym times.

  7. Users assume all risks associated with the use of this facility. Use may result in injury. This facility may not be appropriate for all children. Open gym is not supervised by staff. A signed Release of Liability Waiver must be on file for all open gym participants. Adult supervision is strongly recommended.

  8. Participants should wear athletic apparel and closed toed athletic shoes at all times. Crocs, dress shoes and sandals are not allowed.

  9. Clothing must be appropriate for all ages.

  10. Shirts must be worn at all times and should not be removed outside of a changing room area.

  11. If any accident or injury occurs, please notify a staff member. Report all unsafe conditions to a staff member.

  12. Protect your personal belongings. We are not responsible for lost or stolen property.

  13. No running or bouncing balls in the hall. No kicking of volleyballs or basketballs in the gym.

  14. Please return all balls to their proper receptacle or to the office at the conclusion of play.

  15. You are expected to be on your best behavior. Please report profanity, fighting, spitting, gambling, horseplay, or destruction of property to a staff member. These actions will not be tolerated and will result in discipline. Discipline may include, but not be limited to:

    • Requesting you to leave the premises and/or contacting the police.

    • Suspension of your privilege to use open gym.

    • For minors, informing your parent or guardian.

  16. No food or drink allowed in the gymnasium. Water fountains are available in the hallway.

  17. We reserve the right to close open gym due to other scheduled programs or events.

  18. We reserve the right to ask anyone to leave the premises.

Basketball rules

  1. No dunking, or hanging on the rims is allowed.

  2. Full-court basketball games may be played when space is available.

  3. Staff may stop full-court games when others are waiting for court space.

  4. All basketball goals will remain at 10 feet in height at all times, unless otherwise coordinated by staff for a specific program or rental.

  5. Only basketballs allowed during open gym basketball.

  6. Violation of these rules will result in removal from the facility for the day.

  7. Repeat violators may lose court privileges and/or be asked to leave.

Pickleball rules

  1. When courts are full, players take turns by stacking paddles, allowing others to play.

  2. When games are finished, the players will leave the court and allow the next players to rotate on.

  3. Players may not place multiple paddles on the stacking area to reduce their wait time.

  4. Games are played to 11 points or a 15-minute max time limit before rotating off.

  5. At no time will any player move another person's paddle.

  6. Nets may only be moved by a staff member.
