Art Exhibit: Creative Cloth

Join us for a reception on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lenexa City Hall Art Gallery.

View a variety of fiber arts. This show features quilts from Creative Cloth, a network of local artists working with yarn, silk, satin, found objects and recycled products and Linda Jurkiewicz, a textile artist who pushes viewers to reexamine women’s roles. 

About Creative Cloth

Creative Cloth is comprised of a diverse array of artists who work with a wide variety of fiber materials including commercial and hand-dyed fabric, yarn, silk, satin, found objects, recycled clothing and others. Members draw on a rich tradition of fiber arts while also pushing the boundaries of what is possible with these materials.

About Linda Jurkiewicz

Linda Jurkiewicz resides in Kansas City, Mo., and has worked with textile art since 2005. She credits her upbringing as a first-generation Ukrainian-Croatian for her “make-do” attitude and her delight in upcycling repurposed materials, especially “woman’s work” such as dish towels, household items, and clothing. Her consequential fiber work incorporates soft sculpture, wordplay, idiom, embroidery, wall hangings, plush form, sequential dioramas, and installations which delve into the cultural roles of women in America over the last century. She pushes viewers to reexamine these roles and to trade nostalgia for empowerment.
