Project purpose

Trails are an important part of Lenexa's quality of life, providing opportunities to walk, bike, connect with nature and travel between neighborhoods and community destinations. During the development of the Parks & Recreation Master Plan, more than 1,000 residents shared input, and walking and biking trails emerged as a top priority. The Black Hoof Southern Connection advances that priority by expanding the trail network and filling a key connectivity gap.

Project description

The project will create approximately 1.47 miles of trail connections along 95th Street between Monticello Road and Lone Elm Road, connecting Buffalo Meadows Park to Black Hoof Park. Improvements will include greenway trail connections, a spur to a planned private trail in the Silverleaf neighborhood and reconstruction of the existing trail through the Brampton neighborhood. Together, these improvements will provide new connections between parks and neighborhoods while expanding opportunities to walk and bike throughout western Lenexa.
