Life, liberty and the pursuit of festive fun — here’s how to celebrate America’s birthday in true Lenexa style!

Lenexa Freedom Run

Friday, July 4, 2025 | 7 a.m.
Old Town Lenexa

Start your Independence Day with energy and excitement! The Lenexa Freedom Run is a beloved holiday tradition, drawing hundreds of runners each year. Choose from a 10K or 5K run — or enjoy a more leisurely 5K walk. Strollers are welcome, so bring the whole crew.

Register early to save your spot and score a patriotic T-shirt perfect for parading around the rest of the day.

Not a runner? No problem! Grab your coffee and line the route to cheer on participants. Your encouragement makes the race even better. A great viewing spot: 95th Street.

Community Days Parade

Friday, July 4, 2025 | 10 a.m.
Old Town Lenexa

Break out your red, white and blue for one of Lenexa’s favorite traditions! The Community Days Parade brings marching bands, creative floats and hometown spirit to the streets of Old Town. Arrive early, find your favorite spot along the route(PDF, 64KB), and enjoy the festive fun.

Better yet, be in the parade. You have until June 16 to register a parade entry. This is great exposure for your club, business or organization.

The Great Market Carnival

Friday, July 4, 2025 | Noon–3 p.m.
Lenexa Public Market

After the parade, keep the celebration rolling at The Great Market Carnival at Lenexa Public Market. Join us for family-friendly fun featuring classic carnival games, a colorful chalk art contest, and a jaw-dropping juggling show. Enjoy delicious food from market merchants, test your skills and show off your creativity.

Bring your friends, bring your family — there’s something for everyone!

Cool off at the pool

Take a dip and beat the heat! Our outdoor pools — Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic Center and Flat Rock Creek Pool — will be open until 6 p.m. for an afternoon of fun before the evening festivities begin.

Please note: We’re closing a few hours earlier than normal due to the holiday, and Ad Astra Pool is closed this summer for reconstruction.

Backyard bash? Stay safe.

  1. Fireworks are illegal in Lenexa. Sparklers, snakes, smoke bombs, and paper caps with less than 0.25 grain of explosive powder are allowed.
  2. Grill smart. Keep grills at least 10 feet from siding, deck railings, and overhangs.
  3. Avoid flash fires. Open gas grills before lighting.
  4. Be ready. Keep a fire extinguisher close at hand.
  5. Dispose responsibly. Let coals cool completely, then place them in a metal can.

Holiday hours

City facilities — including City Hall, the Lenexa Rec Center, and Old Town Activity Center — will be closed on July 4. The Lenexa Public Market will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
